Art Engagement Perspective - A consideration for Art and its Movements and Direction
Art beyond negative and positive Liberty
The eclectic array of work today available is impressive, if I were to look at what current subjects artists may examine it would show the continuing movement away from anything ordinary or literal for the danger to appear kitsch, the movement to examine and challenge the inner individual to extremes.
When one examines the dominant subjects in society today for artistic matter, it would have to be the ever increasing array of technology for better and worse, the environment and a changing climate, globalisation, the oil dependent, the automated society and those left behind, yet we find a social comment lost, for the exploration of feelings, particularly through a social surrealism, the insular dream, is it time to wake up finally, in truth, even if the vision is dark. One should pause to consider the dynamism of those moving between a third and first world, a movement of capitalisation, exploitation and exploration, high praise for those artists that capture with keen and honest observation the like of India, China construction.
Does there still stand in art just as in life the pressure for the collective over the individual, for socialism or some brand of social justice, a red element must exist today for as surely as I believe the separate opposite desires for the individual and collective are decided and painted on each of us at birth. For what mode characterises this representation today away from what was forced in Social Realism and before the red official closing of constructivism. Nothing now maybe as black and white (Or as red!) as communism and capitalism once were. I would like to see beyond in Vision, representational form, the dominating unbroken positive and negative liberty, thank you Isaiah Berlin for such profoundly honest yet ultimately so limiting concepts, humanity still cannot move beyond! I call on art today to show humanity that vision beyond.
